Most expensive player in IPL 2023

The IPL 2023 mini-auction for the 16th edition took place on Friday, 23rd December 2022 in Kochi. There were a few intense bidding wars for some of the top cricketers. The franchises went gaga for the overseas cricketers, especially the ones from England. 

The franchises looked desperate for some of the cricketers in the first hour of the auction and there were some very expensive buys. The IPL auction witnessed the top three most expensive buys in the long history of the league on Friday. Although, it was a mini-auction but was full of eventful purchases which set the tone for the day. 

There were some smart buys too as Gujarat Titans bought Kane Williamson for INR 2 crore, Sunrisers Hyderabad fetched Adil Rashid for the same price and Rajasthan Royals got Jason Holder for INR 5.75 crore. However, South Africa T20 specialist Rilee Rossouw, who was expected to get a good deal surprisingly went unsold. The auction was very contrasting to the expert predictions.

The following were the most expensive buys of the IPL 2023 player auction;

5. Harry Brook (England) – 13.25 Crores – Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Yorkshire-born English cricketer will surely remember the IPL 2023 auction for the rest of his life. Nobody expected Harry Brook to get such a big amount. Brook did exceptionally well for England in the recently concluded Test series in Pakistan. He scored three hundreds in as many games and received the player of the series award.

The 23-year-old hogged the limelight after his highly impressive performances. The English captain Ben Stokes has a lot of faith in him and considers him as the future. Brook got a national call-up following his consistent performances in domestic cricket. He made his international debut for England in a T20I against West Indies in January 2022.

The flamboyant middle-order batter is known for his ability to score runs with a high strike rate. He has played 20 T20Is for England scoring 372 runs with a strike rate of 137.78. The sample size of him has been very small as his career is still fledgling.
