Shikhar Dhawan’s past records in England have been phenomenal, especially in limited-overs cricket. However, he hasn’t had much to cheer for in India’s ongoing tour of the nation. He could score only 19 runs in the three T20Is and thereafter couldn’t convert the starts he got in the ODI series with scores of 40, 36 and 44 respectively. India will now play a five-match Test series, which starts on August 1.

His Test record in England is a tad disappointing with 122 runs in three matches at an average of 20.33. Nevertheless, the attacking left-hander would want to make amends and put up an impressive show this time around. Prior to the start of the series next month, the Indian team management asked its players to park their personal lives aside and focus more on their upcoming fixtures.

Dhawan succumbs cheaply

Currently, Virat Kohli and his men are playing a three-day warm-up match against Essex at County Ground in Chelmsford. India won the toss and elected to bat first under trying conditions. Murali Vijay and Dhawan opened the batting. The team had desperately wished for their openers to stave off Essex’s attack without dropping much sweat, however, that wasn’t the case.

Matthew Thomas Coles, who has been in decent touch in England’s domestic cricket across all formats, was entrusted with the new cherry and he didn’t let his team down. He nipped out the prized scalp of Dhawan for a golden duck in the very first over. On the contrary, the Indian left-hander would be gutted for the reason that he couldn’t get a decent score under his belt before the Test series.

Coles dished out a back-of-a-length delivery, which shaped in. Dhawan was cramped for room and the leather took the inside-edge of his willow into the palms of James Foster, the wicketkeeper. Meanwhile, Twitter severely trolled Dhawan for his lacklustre show.
