MS Dhoni, the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, hasn’t had the best of times of late in international cricket. He has been a pale shadow of his glorious past as he has strained with his timing and subsequently, has been a recipient of severe criticism, though his supporters have stood by him throughout. The 37-year-old was also booed at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground during the ODI series against England.

Dhoni was fantabulous during his stint this year for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was able to hit the ball with disdain and won a few matches single-handedly for his franchise. Dhoni turned out to be a massive headache for his opponents as even the best of bowlers strained to curb him from unleashing his wide range of strokes in the shortest format.

MS Dhoni back into the T20I setup

Nevertheless, the experienced campaigner hasn’t quite been able to replicate his form at the international circuit. The Jharkhand-born cricketer was dropped from the T20I squads for the series against Windies and Australia respectively. Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik were preferred ahead of him. Nevertheless, the year 2018 has seen yet another twist as far as Dhoni’s T20I career is concerned.

Yesterday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the series against New Zealand that is scheduled to start on February and Dhoni managed to stake his claim back into the mix. Moreover, he was also selected for the ODI series against Australia and the Black Caps and it didn’t spring a surprise as he is expected to play an important part in the World Cup next year.

Dhoni may not be spring chicken, but he still has the potential to give the best a run for the money. Even as Karthik is the other keeper in the ODI team, Pant, who didn’t quite step up in the 50-overs fixtures against the Caribbean team, was left out. In the meantime, Twitter is delighted after Dhoni found his way into the T20I team and they expressed their happiness over the development.
