The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) concluded with Mumbai Indians lifting the trophy after defeating Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets (DC) in the final of the league on November 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. This was one of the most-talked-about seasons of the T20 Championship on social media. IPL 2020 also witnessed a record-breaking 28% increase in its viewership.

The three-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a torrid run in the tournament and failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in their 10-year history. Though the team finished 7th in the points tally with 12 points, it topped the charts on the microblogging site, Twitter. CSK, led by MS Dhoni was the most tweeted team during the 60-match tournament.

The Super Kings were followed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, who were the second most tweeted team of IPL 2020. Virat Kohli & Co. reached the playoffs after 4 years but were defeated in the Eliminator by Sunrisers Hyderabad. After RCB, the teams which had most tweets on its name was Mumbai Indians followed by Orange Army, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab while Delhi Capitals acquired the last spot in this list.

Sachin Tendulkar bags golden tweet of IPL 2020

As far as the matches are concerned, the inaugural match of IPL 2020 between MI and CSK emerged as the most tweeted about match of the season. MI vs SRH occupies the second spot while MI vs KXIP stands third in this list. The reverse clash between Mumbai and Punjab on October 18 was one of the most thrilling matches in the 13-year history of the league as two Super Overs were played between the two teams.

The captain of the Bangalore outfit Virat Kohli registered himself as the most tweeted about player in the 2020 edition of the T20 Extravaganza. Sachin Tendulkar, on the other hand, holds the record of tweeting the golden tweet of the tournament.

In a fixture between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on September 27, the Punjab batsman Nicholas Pooran, who was standing at deep mid-wicket, dived full length and brilliantly saved runs for his team. He had caught the ball while hanging in the air and had thrown it back to the ground before landing outside the boundary line.

Praising the Caribbean batsman for his stunning effort, the former Indian captain Tendulkar had tweeted, “This is the best save I have seen in my life. Simply incredible!!” The tweet received over 23,000 retweets.
