Twitter Reactions: Bowlers take Perth Scorchers to maiden victory this BBL

Scorchers chased the target down with 12 balls to spare.

Perth Scorchers, after losing against the Renegades and Sixers, have eventually won their first encounter of this season’s Big Bash League (BBL) against Adelaide Strikers by eight wickets at the new Perth Stadium. Their bowlers took them the ascendancy following which the run-chase became a doddle for the Scorchers. In the meantime, Colin Ingram’s Strikers lost their second consecutive match this season.

After winning the toss and opting to field first, the Scorchers, captained by Ashton Turner, dictated terms and bowled their opponents out for 88 in 17.2 overs. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald started decently with a 25-run partnership, but Jhy Richardson got rid of Weatherald, who scored 22. The visiting team then lost seven wickets in 42 balls and were reduced to 46/7 in 11.2 overs.

Cameron Valente and Rashid Khan tried to inject momentum with a partnership of 38 runs from 26 balls. However, Andrew Tye nipped out Valente for 21, after which there wasn’t any resistance from the lower-order batsmen. For Scorchers, even as Richardson picked up three wickets, Tye and Jason Behrendroff got a couple each. David Willey and Nathan Courter Nile picked the other two wickets.

Cakewalk for the Scorchers’ batsmen

With a modest target ahead of them, Michael Klinger and Josh Inglis opened the batting. In the fourth over, Klinger, who could only score two runs, succumbed to a run-out, much to the Strikers’ delight. At the other end, Inglis looked in good touch and he smacked four boundaries to score 22 runs from 21 deliveries. Right-arm fast bowler Billy Stanlake dismissed him to pick up the second wicket.

Thereafter, William Bosisto and captain Ashton Turner put their heads down and never allowed the Strikers’ to get a foothold back into the encounter. Rashid was introduced in the fifth over and he conceded nine runs from four overs, but the most important part was that he didn’t get a wicket. Bosisto and Turner remained not out on 29 and 24 to help the Scorchers chase the target with 12 balls to spare
