After almost a week’s break, the Trinbago Knight Riders were finally back in action in the game against the Barbados Tridents. This encounter was played at the Kensington Oval, the home ground of the Barbados Tridents. The Knight Riders won this game comprehensively, courtesy a splendid knock from Brendon McCullum.

On a deck where most of the other batsmen struggled, the former Kiwi skipper applied himself beautifully and took his team through in this low-scoring chase. Although he got out just a few runs before the target, his efforts were enough to take his team back to the top position on the points table. The Tridents have now lost their second consecutive game.

Extensive shuffling around not working for the Tridents

The Tridents are shuffling around too much with their playing XI and the batting order. This is possibly not allowing the players to settle in properly and leading to the downfall of the side. After having left out Hashim Amla in the previous game, they decided to bench Martin Guptill for this match. Tridents’ skipper Jason Holder decided to bat first after winning the toss. However, the side has witnessed the worst of collapses just in the first two overs.

The side lost 3 wickets in the second over of the game. While Dwayne Smith got out for 2 runs, Shamar Springer and Steve Smith were both dismissed for a duck. Even though Shai Hope (42 off 34 balls), Nicolas Pooran (34 off 21 balls) and Jason Holder (30 off 33 balls) tried to resurrect the innings, their efforts weren’t enough. The side could only manage to put on 128 runs in their quota of 20 overs.

Brendon McCullum was a class act

In the chase, the Knight Riders lost three wickets within the powerplay. While the openers Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine scored 8 and 13 runs respectively, Colin Munro got out for 14 runs. Soon, Darren Bravo also got out for just 2 runs and took 10 balls to score as many runs. Just as the side looked in some sort of a trouble, Brendon McCullum took the onus upon himself to win the game for his side.

He played some aggressive shots yet was really practical in his approach. With some assistance from Denesh Ramdin (20 off 16 balls), he steered his side through to a win. McCullum, after scoring 66 runs off 42 balls got out just two runs before reaching the target. Skipper DJ Bravo finished the proceeding with his boundary. Mohammad Irfan proved that he is human after all as he conceded 24 runs in his 4 overs and picked two wickets.

Twitterati was glad that Trinbago Knight Riders bagged another impressive win. Team owner Shah Rukh Khan seemed to be an elated man after this victory and shared his happiness on Twitter. Brendon McCullum, Khary Pierre and Fawad Ahmed were lauded for their efforts. Some also lashed out at Steve Smith for getting out for a duck.
