The Rajasthan Royals have managed to keep their dreams alive in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. And the man responsible for the same is largely their opener – Jos Buttler. The sensational form of Jos Buttler has helped the Royals register yet another crucial win in the season. The English cricketer scored his fifth consecutive fifty in the tournament to seal the game for his side in the must win encounter against the defending champions.
Coming in to the game, both sides were desperate for the win. It was the ‘winner takes it all’ game. The winner was set to get closer to the playoffs qualification. On the other hand, the loser was almost certain to crash out of the same race. The Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first in the game. The Mumbai Indians got a very good start with their openers, Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis, adding 87 runs for the first wicket.
Yadav was dismissed on 38 and Lewis went on to score a fine 60 off 42 deliveries. The innings saw midway collapse with the middle-order faltering big time. Hardik Pandya played a very handy cameo of 36 runs off 21 balls to propel the Mumbai Indians score to 168/6 in the 20 overs. In the run chase, it was Jos Buttler, who ended up being the chief anchor and the architect for the Rajasthan Royals.
D Arcy Short perished cheaply but Buttler found very good support from Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane scored 37 off 36 deliveries. Meanwhile, Buttler reached his fifth consecutive fifty – and equalled the record for scoring most consecutive IPL fifties with Virender Sehwag who had achieved the feat back in 2012. Buttler missed out on a well deserved century yet again and remained unbeaten on 94 off 53 deliveries.
His knock was studded with 9 fours and 5 sixes. His efforts, combined with late blitz from Sanju Samson (26 off 14 deliveries) ensured that the Rajasthan Royals were over the line in time. The Royals beat the hosts by 7 wickets and 2 overs to spare. The defeat for the Mumbai Indians means that they will have to be overly dependent on their destiny to ensure their qualification.
Here is how the Twitterati reacted to the Mumbai Indians win:
What a day in the Ipl two great games. Big surprise, not a single wicket to spin in 80 overs ! That too, this late in the tournament clearly shows the quality of pitches prepared.

A single decision has turned around RR’s IPL campaign: Jos Buttler has reeled off five successive half centuries after being promoted to open.

People still justify RTM’ing Pollard instead of Buttler. Learn from RCB. They retain Sarfaraz and RTM Negi and they aren’t even worth playing in the XI anymore. Don’t justify, just cry.

This is a massive win for @rajasthanroyals .They can attribute this wonderful turnaround to Jos Buttler, who ever since he has opened has made RR look a different side altogether. Feel very happy for @ajinkyarahane88 #MIvRR

The big turning points for #RajasthanRoyals have been the promotion of Buttler but also the arrival of Archer

Rayudu, Suryakumar, Buttler…asked to open and they’ve come to their own. Their former teams didn’t view them as regular openers… #MIvRR #IPL

Said it just after the auction .. and I will say it again .. @josbuttler was the best value for money signing of the #IPL .. How @mipaltan didn’t retain him is beyond me !!! #OnOn #India
