There was nothing much left to do for hosts West Indies on day four of the second and final Test against Bangladesh as the visitors had faced a terrible collapse while batting on the third day. Six wickets fell on the third day for the visitors when they were trailing by 174 runs at the start of their second innings. Though they covered it up, the batters could not manage to take a formidable lead and posted a target of mere 13 runs for the West Indies to win before being bundled out for 186.

In the first innings, Mayers’ brilliant knock of 146 gave the hosts a commanding lead, and Bangladesh’s top order crumbled once again in the second innings because the batters were unable to build on the partnerships since they primarily relied on the middle order, which also failed. Khaled Ahmed bagged a five-wicket haul for Bangladesh, but that did not hurt the home team as they confidently advanced to victory.

When the visitors went out to bat in the second innings, their openers were dismissed for a poor score. The hosts kept picking wickets at regular intervals, amidst which Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Nurul Hasan managed to score some decent runs. While the former was dismissed by Alzarri Joseph for a 91-ball 42, the latter managed to remain unbeaten at the end of the innings with a score of 60 off 50 balls.

West Indies hand Bangladesh their 100th Test defeat

Although Nurul put out his best to build partnerships, no other batter could provide him the required support. Bangladesh started the fourth day at 132/6, and the wicketkeeper-batter was in a commanding position, but he did not receive support from the other end. Four wickets fell within nine overs into the play and Bangladesh’s lineup was cleaned up, with a lead of 12 runs, as the final three batters were dismissed for a duck.

Kraigg Brathwaite (4* off 6) and John Campbell (9* off 11), as usual, opened the innings for the hosts with a target of 13 runs to bag the victory. The duo faced 17 balls combined with the latter finishing the game off with a magnificent boundary. West Indies whitewashed the series by 2-0 and handed the visitors a terrible defeat. The two teams now look to lock horns in the white-ball games.
