India captain Rohit Sharma led his side from the front on Day 2 of the fifth Test against England scoring 12th hundred of his Test career at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. The Indian skipper played a magnificent innings of 103 (162) with the help of 13 fours and three sixes as he got involved in a massive 171-run stand with Shubman Gill.

Notably, Rohit didn’t start the series well registering scores of 24,39, 14 and 13 in the first two Tests. This prompted former England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott to comment on his poor form who stated that the Indian captain is nearly 37 and past his best.

"Their captain Rohit Sharma is nearly 37 and past his best. He makes pretty cameos but has scored only two Test hundreds at home in four years," Boycott had written in his column for The Telegraph.

It seems as if Boycott’s words stung the Indian captain as he made a brilliant comeback with a scintillating hundred in the third Test in Rajkot. The 36-year-old scored 131 (196) clobbering 14 fours and three sixes and rescued his team from a precarious situation of 33/3.

He further scored a match-winning 55 (81) during the fourth innings of the fourth Test in Ranchi to help India get off to a great start chasing a tricky target of 192. In the series so far, Rohit is the fourth-highest run scorer with 400 runs to his name from nine innings at an average of 44.44 with two hundreds and a fifty.

The Indian skipper had his back against the wall after England stunned India in the series opener in Hyderabad where they managed to win the game after being 190 runs behind in the first innings. Since then Rohit has answered his critics both with the bat and shrewd leadership inspiring a young side to take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

Meanwhile, after the second hundred of the series from the Indian captain, fans schooled Boycott on social media. Here are some of the posts:
