Another day in the T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 stages where rain became the talking point as both encounters at the MCG got washed out without a ball being bowled. The first game on the day to be called off between Afghanistan and Ireland was huge for the Irish side who surprised England in their previous encounter with a stunning victory.
The second game on the day was the much-awaited clash between defending champions Australia and one of the favourites in the tournament, England. The fans arrived in numbers for the game but the rain seemed to have other plans and instilled a huge disappointment around the world. The hype around the game was massive, especially with how the group is poised at the moment and it would have been an ideal fixture to determine who might reach the knockouts.
Group 1 poised for a fantastic ending
Meanwhile, a point shared between Australia and England due to the rain has now increased the chances of New Zealand progressing into the semi-finals from Group 1 on account of their high net run rate. Australia will play Ireland and Afghanistan in their remaining encounters and they will fancy winning them by a big margin to push for a spot in the knockouts.
On the other hand, England will have to play the table-toppers New Zealand and Asian champions Sri Lanka in their next two games which is not going to be easy by any means. The fans can only hope that rain doesn’t hamper the remaining games of the tournament as they were clearly disappointed with the ICC for the scheduling. The fans bashed ICC on Twitter after another high-intensity clash was washed out.
Here's how Twitter reacted to England vs Australia wash out:
High time that we have dynamic scheduling at big tournaments. These high octane clashes don't happen often and no one wants a washout or a 5 over match. Have a reserve day or postpone the game. Have to be a bit flexible for the benefit of teams and fans.#T20WC2022

There is an appeal to the @ICC to organize every upcoming World Cup in Rajasthan because we do not have rain here and the upcoming matches of the World Cup which is going on in Australia, should also be organized here in Rajasthan. #rain #T20WorldCup @BCCI pic.twitter.com/lx02ncEQSC
