Courtesy of a very special knock from youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajasthan Royals have managed to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by nine wickets at Eden Gardens on May 11. Batting first, the Nitish Rana-led side started well but with Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz getting out rather cheaply, the entire pressure fell on KKR’s middle order and they eventually succumbed to it.

Batting at number three, Venkatesh Iyer started really slow and his strike rate was under the scanner but the Indore-born cricketer ended up scoring 57 runs off 42 deliveries. Other than him, none of the batters could make any significant mark as KKR went on to post only 149 runs on the board. Andre Russell, who showed a lot of promise in the last match, could score only 10 runs off 10 deliveries while Rinku Singh, who has been one of the most promising stars of this season, ended up scoring 16 runs off 18 deliveries.

With the ball, Yuzvendra Chahal once again made a difference as the spinner picked up four wickets and also became the all-time leading wicket-taker in the tournament in the process. He also managed to become the leading wicket-taker of the IPL 2023 season as well, as RR looked terrific with the ball throughout the first innings.

If balling looked good, batting was way better. 21-year-old Jaiswal showed a lot of promise throughout but against KKR, he proved why he is considered as one of the future stars of Indian cricket. The UP-born cricketer hit 98* runs off just 47 deliveries as he also managed to hit the fastest half-century by a cricketer in the history of the Indian Premier League. Sanju Samson supported him well in the middle, scoring 48* runs off 29 deliveries as RR won the match with 35 deliveries remaining. With that, they have now moved on to number three in the IPL points table while KKR slipped down to number seven as their net run rate took a massive hit in the match.
