Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) took on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 11 of the Indian Premier League 2024 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday. LSG won the toss and opted to bat first. They were off to a flying start, but KL Rahul departed, scoring 15 runs. Devdutt Padikkal too failed to deliver and Marcus Stoinis mustered 19 runs. Nicholas Pooran came charging with his 42 runs and Quinton de Kock amassed 53 runs. It was Krunal Pandya’s 43 runs in 22 balls that took LSG to a commanding total of 199 runs.

Punjab dominated the whole game up until half stage of their chase and faltered thereafter. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow stitched a 102-run partnership for the first wicket, and post Bairstow’s wicket things started to fall apart. Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma walked back without impacting much, and Dhawan too trod back, scoring 70 off 50. Injured Liam Livingstone (28* off 17) and Shashank Singh could not accumulate the demanding 56 runs in 18 balls as LSG won by 21 runs.

Let's have a look at the highlights from the match:

1. Liam Livingstone walks off the field, pulling his hamstring

Just when the LSG openers were looking in the groove, Livingstone, who was fielding at deep mid-wicket, pulled his hamstring trying to move to his left. He had to forfeit the field and walk back to the dressing room, casting shadows on PBKS’ batting prospects.

2. KL Rahul beautifully lofts one off Arshdeep Singh

Rahul was not captaining the side today as he was marginally rested due to his injury recuperation process. But the right-handed batter looked dangerous in his brief innings. He lofted a full-pitched delivery off Arshdeep over mid-ff in his trademark shot, as the sight was to behold.

3. Shikhar Dhawan unleashes reverse sweep for a six

Dhawan batted reminiscent of his old days. The ICC events man for India was dealing with boundaries and the Manimaran Siddharth was on his radar. On the final delivery of the third over, he changed his stance got into a right-hander position, and swept the ball to six which was on the stumps.
