Rajasthan Royals flexed their muscle with the bat against a struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad in Jaipur. The home side decided to bat first after skipper Sanju Samson called it right at the coin toss. Aiden Markram's bowlers had no answers against a menacing Jos Buttler, who missed out on a century by just five runs.
It was Rajasthan's in-form Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal who laid the foundation for his side in the powerplay with a breathtaking cameo. Jaiswal, who was lucky not to be dismissed in the first over of the match, smashed 35 runs off just 18 deliveries as the home side breached the 50-run mark in the first five overs.
Buttler, who played second fiddle in his explosive opening stand with Jaiswal, upped the ante after his opening partner's dismissal. His skipper Sanju Samson also joined the party, taking on the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers, especially Mayank Markande, who leaked 51 runs in his four overs without any success.
The Royals skipper, who has received flak for his erratic run with the bat in the latter half of the ongoing season, displayed his undoubted quality, registering a brisk half-century in a sensational 138-run stand with Buttler for the second wicket. However, the explosive English opener fell agonisingly short of a deserved century, missing out on the ton by just five runs.
However, Samson continued his pyrotechnics from the other end, smashing a maximum and a boundary of the final two deliveries of the first innings to take his side to a mammoth total of 214 runs in their 20 overs.
