England bowlers showcased sheer brilliance throughout their first innings against South Africa in the third and final Test of the three-match series. After the first day was abandoned due to rain, and the second day was suspended owing to the demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Saturday was considered the third day of the Test at The Oval.

Winning the toss, England put South Africa to bat first. Even though Khaya Zondo and Marco Jansen resumed the innings in the middle post lunch, South Africa wasn't in a strong spot, to begin with. It all started with Ollie Robinson picking up the first wicket in the form of skipper Dean Elgar, who was then followed by Sarel Erwee, Keegan Petersen, Ryan Rickelton, and Kyle Verreynne as the visitors lost five big wickets within 10 overs of play.

However, at least the two of them were prepared to face the wrath of the English bowlers. Although they both made it through a good time on the crease and saved South Africa from being bowled out for an action that would have been unbearably embarrassing by their standards, the partnership didn't continue long after lunch.

England bowlers showcase proper domination

Ollie Robinson (5/49) and Stuart Broad (4/41) were the stars of the show, as they kept picking the wickets at regular intervals and shared nine wickets between themselves, with Robinson bagging a five-wicket haul. Jansen and Keshav Maharaj attempted a few shots and failed, but when England gradually adopted their short-ball strategy against the lower order, they took a gamble and were able to squeeze in a few runs.

That strategy would not have allowed them to survive for very long, as Jansen, who survived dismissal scare twice in the course of one over, was eventually caught at slip, Maharaj dragged one onto his stumps, and Nortje was the final man out, gifting a comfortable catch to Ben Stokes as England dished out the Proteas for a low score of 118/10.

English bowlers dominated the game completely. Robinson provided his side with the first breakthrough before veteran James Anderson bagged his first and only wicket of the innings. Thereon, it was the Robinson-Broad camaraderie that was visible. The duo stormed through the South African lineup and the visitors’ innings came crashing down in less that 37 overs.
