After suffering a humiliating loss in the first match, team Sri Lanka bounced back well against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in their second encounter of the 2022 T20 World Cup played at the Simonds Stadium, Geelong on October 18 (Tuesday).

Speaking about the game, UAE won the toss and opted to have a bowl first. Sri Lanka openers including Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis gave a decent to their team, but Mendis got out after trying to accelerate.

Batter Dhananjaya de Silva joined Nissanka and they formed a crucial partnership for the batting team. Sri Lanka was doing extremely well until the first 11 overs of the match, but the UAE bowlers brought their team back to the contest.

After the fall of Silva, the Island nation suffered a big collapse. While Nissanka was holding one end and also completed his fifty, none of the other Sri Lanka batters managed to stay for long on the crease. Apart from Nissanka, Silva, and Mendis, none of the other Sri Lankan batters managed to reach the double-figure mark. For UAE, Chennai-born Karthik Meiyappan registered the first hat trick of the tournament.

UAE batters surrender against the Sri Lanka bowling line-up

Chasing a total of 153 runs, UAE batters failed to get going with the bat. The chasing team lost a total of four wickets inside the field restrictions. The likes of Muhammad Waseem, Aryan Lakra, skipper Chundangapoyil Rizwan, and Chirag Suri were sent back to the pavilion inside the first six overs of the match.

UAE's misery did not end after the powerplay as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Express pacer Dushmantha Chameera ran riot on UAE's batting line-up as he took three wickets in his four-over quota. In the end, UAE batters surrendered for just 73 runs after losing their ten wickets in just 17.1 overs.
