Twitter Reactions: D'Arcy Short's century stuns the Scorchers; Hurricanes move up to fifth position in the points table

Hobart Hurricanes locked horns with Perth Scorchers in the 24th match of Big Bash League 2019-20. The game played at Perth Stadium in Perth turned out to be a one-sided affair. The visitors won the game by a margin of 8 runs and grabbed two important points as they moved up to the fifth position in the points table.

Earlier, the Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bat and their opener D’Arcy Short and Caleb Jewell helped them in getting off to a flying start as they stitched a brilliant partnership of 69 runs. In the end, the opening stand was broken by Scorchers part-time leg spinner Liam Livingstone, who dismissed settled Jewell in the 11th over of the innings. But, it never affected the momentum of Hurricanes, who looked quite aggressive while batting.

Perth Scorchers bowlers’ fails to restrict D’Arcy Short from playing magical knock

Short turned out to be the star in visitors batting line up, who looked in full flow with the bat. He played a swashbuckling knock of 103 runs off 70 balls with three boundaries and seven sixes. He was one of the main reasons the Hurricanes successfully managed to post a mammoth total of 180 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. The Scorchers bowlers’ looked quite ineffective and failed to restrict the batting line up of visitors from [piling runs.

Coming onto the chase, the hosts’ got off to a poor start as they lost their top-order batsman Liam Livingstone, Josh Inglis and Cameron Bancroft were dismissed in the early overs of the match that left Scorchers struggling at a score of 18 runs with three wickets in three overs. The hosts recovered strongly on the back of brilliant partnership of 75 runs stitched between Mitchell Marsh (48 runs off 36 balls) and Cameron Green (33 runs off 32 balls) but they failed to win the game for their side.

In the end, Jhye Richardson played a brilliant cameo of 33 runs off 14 balls with three sixes and one boundary and tried his level best. But his effort went in vain as Perth Scorchers could only score 172 runs in 20 overs and lost the game by a small margin of eight runs.

Scott Boland turned out to be the best bowler for Hurricanes, who registered good bowling figures of 2/29. On the other hand, D’Arcy Short was awarded Man of the Match for smashing a magnificent century.
