England’s white-ball captain Eoin Morgan’s decision to withdraw himself from the Bangladesh tour has attracted a serious wave of criticism. Morgan, who had previously shown reservation about going on the tour, gave his final decision today by refusing to travel to the Asian country.
His teammate Alex Hales also decided to follow the same path and made the decision to pull out of the tour. The decision made by both these players was not well-received, Fans, experts, and ex-cricketers lashed out on the duo on Twitter. Michael Vaughan most notably was very upset and called the duo’s decision as a very ‘big mistake.’
ECB director Andrew Strauss, who had been trying his best to convince the players over the past couple of weeks, was also visibly upset.
“Whilst we understand and respect Eoin and Alex’s decision, we are disappointed that they have made themselves unavailable for selection for the Bangladesh tour,” Strauss said. “We have had open and honest conversations with all the players about the security arrangements in Bangladesh and at this stage, we are not expecting any other individuals to withdraw from the tour. Final selection for the Bangladesh tour will now take place on Friday.
Most of the members of the Test and the limited overs have already given the green signal. Test skipper Alastair Cook, Joe Root, Chris Jordan, Moeen Ali and others weren’t hesitant at all. Stuart Broad, too, after pondering over the issue, eventually made it clear that he was joining the party.
The duo has more than a couple of reasons to worry at the moment. Morgan will most likely face some sharp consequences for not trusting ECB. Alex Hales will also find it tough to make it to the team again given the sort of competition that exists currently in the England team.
I think you have made a big mistake @Eoin16 & @AlexHales1 .. https://t.co/HwWA8BC0hP. @TelegraphSport #Bangladesh

Get ready for British Press' incessant criticism of Eoin Morgan and Alex Hales. For a change though, I'll enjoy it.

I hope that Eoin Morgan is not sacked as Captain because of his failure to go to Bangladesh. I support his decision anyway. Good man too.

Very very courageous decision by Eoin anyway! Right or wrong, he was given a choice.

Courageous? This is the least courageous thing I've seen an England sporting captain ever do. https://t.co/AGGlljEF5m

Alastair Cook showed guts & leadership by agreeing to lead England Test team to Bangladesh.
Eoin Morgan's bottled it.
Pathetic.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) September 11, 2016
