The 2018 Asia Cup has already been a witness to some exciting encounters. But the most awaited encounter will be played today when India will lock horns with Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both teams have made impressive starts to their respective campaigns. India, led by Rohit Sharma, brushed aside Hong Kong in a closely-fought encounter in Dubai the last night.
On the contrary, the Men in Green thumped Hong Kong pretty comprehensively by eight wickets. Their fast bowlers were impressive and didn’t give Anshuman Rath and Co a sniff of an opportunity to get a foothold into the match. Moreover, both teams have qualified for the Super 4 and the last league match in Group A won’t have any significance as far as the series is concerned.
Following victories in their opening matches, the age-old rivals are also scheduled to play on September 23 at the same venue in Dubai. Meanwhile, India don’t have an overwhelming record against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). They have won only seven out of their 26 matches and overall the Men in Green have won 52 out of their 129 matches while losing 73.
Fans eagerly waiting
However, in the last 12 years, the Men in Blue have got their better of their neighbouring country, winning 17 out of the 27 matches. As far as the Asia Cup is concerned India and Pakistan have won five matches each against each other while one match back in 1997 didn’t produce a result. Pakistan came out trumps in their last meeting back in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.
In the meantime, the supporters are excited about the tournament’s marquee clash. India won’t have the services of Virat Kohli, their regular captain, and it will be interesting to see how their batsmen stave off the might of the Pakistani pace attack. On the other hand, Pakistan would be hoping to maintain their dominance over India in the UAE.
Here is how Twitter is waiting for the epic clash
