Twitter Reactions: Gautam Gambhir misses an IPL game for the first time in 8 years

The eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has gone from bad to worse for Gautam Gambhir. During the auction, he asked the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to refrain from bidding for him. He entered the auction as a marquee player and was subsequently picked up a price of INR 2.8 crore by the Delhi Daredevils (DD). However, he hasn’t had an overwhelming journey thus far in the league.

He made an impressive half-century against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), however, KL Rahul’s blitzkrieg meant that Delhi were denied a victory. Since then Delhi and Gambhir’s campaign has only seen a downward trend. The franchise has been thrashed black and blue and have only won only a solitary game against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium.

The bowlers faltered in the game, but Jason Roy smacked the bowlers to help Delhi their maiden game. However, that was the only moment to cherish for the Daredevils. Gambhir’s form has also been horrendous as he has only managed single-figure knocks. Thereafter, he resigned as the skipper of the Daredevils and Shreyas Iyer was appointed as the captain.

The rough-patch for Gautam Gambhir

Meanwhile, he also announced that he won’t be taking any salary from the franchise and will play the season for free. The decision has been appreciated by the cricketing fraternity and the commoners. To make things worse, he has been dropped from the playing eleven against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Vijay Shankar, the all-round cricketer from Tamil Nadu has replaced him.

Following the announcement, Twitter couldn’t hold themselves back and mourned the decision. The fortunes have definitely turned for the Delhi-born cricketer. Prior to the tournament, he was touted to make an impact for the Daredevils. However, the utility of the cricketer won’t die down as he can share his invaluable knowledge with the youngsters, which can work wonders for them.
