Dhaka Dynamites and Rajshahi Kings crossed swords in the second of the opening day’s doubleheader at Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In the end, the Dynamites, captained by Shakib Al Hasan, comfortably emerged victorious by 83 runs. The Kings, on the contrary, need to get back to the drawing board on an immediate basis after getting back to the drawing boards.

Hazratullah marches on

The Kings’ decision to field first boomeranged on them big time as the Dynamites amassed a massive score of 189 runs in 20 overs. Hazratullah Zazai and Sunil Narine opened the batting and raced away to a stand of 116 runs off 64 balls. The duo racked up 68 in the power-play to lay the platform for the rest of the innings. The left-handed Zazai accomplished his fifty in 22 balls, nudging the ball to square leg.

Mohammad Hafeez nipped out Narine, who turned up with 38 runs from 28 balls, to separate the duo. In the next over, captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz accounted for the wicket of Zazai after the latter got 78 runs from 41 balls with four fours and seven sixes. Kieron Pollard and Shakib Al Hasan got out cheaply, but a cameo of 38 from 14 balls from Shuvagata Hom propelled the Dynamites’ score to some extent.

Rajshahi Kings fall like ninepins

The run-chase started on a good note for the Kings as Mohammad Hafeez and Mominul Haque added 24 runs in 15 balls for the first wicket. However, things went southwards for Rajshahi as they lost wickets at an alarming rate as Dhaka kept turning the screws on them. Hafeez tried to hold one end together, scoring 29 runs from 28 balls, got out in the ninth over and with him also went the Kings’ hopes.

After 10.1 overs, the Dynamites were reduced to 59 for seven in the 11th over. Arafat Sunny and Mustafizur Rahman flung their bats to reduce the defeat-margin below 100. For Dhaka, Rubel Hossain was their standout bowler with three wickets, conceding seven runs in three overs. Debutant pacer Mohor Sheikh got a couple of wickets even as Shakib, Hom, Pollard and Andre Russell picked up a wicket each.

Here is how Twitter hailed the Dynamites
