In a pure one-sided encounter in Centurion, the visitors managed to produce a sensational all-round performance. With another splendid victory, India now lead the series 2-0. The match would’ve been through without a break if lunch wasn’t called on when Indians needed just two runs. The Indian skipper, as well as the South African players, weren’t pleased but the umpires stuck to the rules. Nevertheless, India won the game by 9 wickets.
Aiden Markram who was leading the side in only his third ODI didn’t have a memorable outing. Batting first, South Africa had a decent start as Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock looked pretty stable in the middle. They put up 39 runs for the first wicket before Amla edged one from Bhuvneshwar Kumar. However, as soon as the wrist spinners were introduced, it triggered a collapse.
The South Africans lost three wickets in a space of six balls. JP Duminy and debutant Khaya Zondo then tried to rescue the Proteas but failed to last long. The tailenders were dismissed in time as the hosts were wrapped up for 118 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal recorded his career-best figures of 5/22. Kuldeep Yadav also got three wickets and the spin twin shared 8 wickets having bowled 14.2 overs.
As for India, Rohit Sharma continued his poor run in South Africa, the vice-captain was dismissed for 15 while Shikhar Dhawan scored a half century. However, there were no further casualties as both Dhawan and skipper Virat Kohli ensured they took India across the finish line. India won the game by 9 wickets with almost 30 overs to spare.
Twitter was completely astonished following the dominating performance by India. While the South African fans pitied their team’s performance in ABD and Faf’s absence, the Indian fans lauded the wrist spinners. Rohit Sharma was trolled for his inconsistency on the South African tour so far.
Here is how Twitterati saw the turn of event in their eyes:
Chahal banayega South Africa mein Mahal. Waah, what a wonderful spell. 5 for by a spinner.

Congratulations India in a resounding win. Not many teams can outplay South Africa in South Africa the way we did. @yuzi_chahal was simply outstanding and ably supported by @imkuldeep18 #SAvIND

Brilliant performance by the Indian spin twins @yuzi_chahal & @imkuldeep18 today, It was difficult to say if they were bowling in South Africa or South India.#IndvsSA

Cricket is bloody bonkers … Lunch break taken with 2 runs required for Victory … Surely common sense comes into play !!!!!!!!! #SAvsIND

The best South African performance in the match is from the DJ at SuperSport Park.
Played 'Piano Man' and 'Buffalo Soldier'. #SAvIND— Saurabh Somani (@saurabh_42) February 4, 2018
Kohli takes a nasty blow in his ribs, and then hits the next ball for a cracking six.
That summarises this Indian trip to South Africa. #SAvIND

Just look at the fire and intensity in the eyes of @KagisoRabada25. The last time we saw a look like that in the eyes of a South African batsman was @KP24. #SAvIND

poor Rabada wasted half his energy on that celebration

Virat Kohli: God bless this couple pic.twitter.com/e7Ay954X7r

Virat Kohli walks in at 26 for 1, with only 93 needed for victory. Can't get a century even if he hits a six with scores tied – so South Africa can say they have denied him a chasing century no matter what.

Very casual cricket from Rohit Sharma! Maybe because he knew a 200 wasn't possible today #SAvIND

Rabada-Rohit love story continues .

Du Plessis will only make the losses look more respectable. SA need AB if they hope to win a match or two. And AB and Faf together with Ngidi to consistently compete.
