India took on New Zealand in the warm-up match for the ICC Champions Trophy at Kennington Oval, London. As it turned out, it was a one-sided contest with rains playing spoilsport towards the fag end of the match. Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to field first.
Much was expected out of the batting heavy unit of New Zealand with the likes of Martin Guptill, Williamson, Corey Anderson and Colin de Grandhomme. But it was Luke Ronchi and Jimmy Neesham who stood out in their line-up with wickets falling at regular intervals at the other end. Ronchi top-scored in the innings with his fluent 63-ball 66 and found some support at the other end from Neesham with his 46. New Zealand only managed 189 runs before being bowled out.
The Kiwis never looked comfortable against the deadly pace attack of the Indians starring Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. Shami and Bhuvneshwar were the standout bowlers for the Indians as they claimed three wickets each.
Spin twin of Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja transformed their form from the grand home season of Test matches into the One-dayers as they claimed three wickets in the game amongst themselves. The think tank in the Indian cricket team would have a thing or two to worry about regarding the selection of bowlers as all look rich in form, rhythm, and wicket taking abilities.
Shikhar Dhawan answered his critics in grand style as he looked in regal touch bringing back memories from 2013 with his innings of 40. After the dismissal of Rahane, Virat Kohli took over control as he brought up yet another half-century in one-dayers. He scored 52 off just 55 balls, laced with 6 boundaries.
India were cruising through, even after the wicket of Dinesh Karthik, with Kohli and Dhoni at the crease. But it was rain who played spoilsport and India was awarded the match due to their superior run-rate by Duck-Worth Lewis Method. India won the match by 45 runs with 129 runs already on the board.

And you notice how in 2 overs, Kohli has got back into the rhythm. Teams need to spot that period to get the better of him.

Ajinkya Rahane needs to be told precisely what his role in India's limited overs batting is. He seems a bit confused right now.#INDvNZ

Across his ODI career Kohli averages 50.00 runs per dismissal against pace and 64.06 runs per dismissal against spin. #IndvNZ
