India came into their first match of the Super 4 of the 2018 Asia Cup against Bangladesh as the firm favourites and they did their reputation no harm with a resounding victory at Dubai International Cricket Stadium by a comprehensive seven wickets. Not at one stage did Mashrafe Mortaza and Co seem like getting the better of their opponents as India went from strength to strength.
Jadeja steals the show
India got themselves off to an impressive start after Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first. Liton Das and Nazmul Hossain Shanto flattered to deceive and were nipped out by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah respectively. Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim threatened, but Ravindra Jadeja got rid of Shakib to pick up his first wicket. Mohammad Mithun also couldn’t survive the heat.
Rahim threw his wicket away courtesy of a rash reverse-sweep. Mahmudullah and Mosaddek Hossain resurrected the innings with a 36-run stand, but both perished in successive overs. Mashrafe Mortaza and Mehidy Hasan buckled down and compiled a stand of 66 runs in quick time to take Bangladesh to a respectable 173, albeit the Tigers were bowled out inside the 50 overs.
India win comfortably
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan started India’s run chase steadily with a partnership of 61 runs from 86 deliveries. The Bangladeshi bowlers tried their hearts out but the openers didn’t succumb and gave their team a brilliant start. Shakib Al Hasan broke the stand with the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan. However, Ambati Rayudu and Rohit didn’t get complacent.
They built a 45-run partnership to take the sting out of the Bangladeshi attack. Rubel Hossain dismissed Rayudu as he found the batsman’s outside edge, but by then, the writing was on the walls for the Tigers. Rohit also accomplished his second consecutive half-century. Dhoni also played a decent hand and along with Rohit he helped India track the target down with 82 balls to spare.

Dhoni at No 4 is two steps back for the Indian middle order. No matter if they beat Bangladesh. That's because he is not the future and if you don't groom players in Asia Cup, when will you? #Dhoni #AsiaCup2018
