As expected, it was England who thoroughly dominated Afghanistan in the second warm-up game. The visitors committed plenty of mistakes with the bat in this match which was quite disappointing. Many of the batsmen committed imprudent errors in this encounter and have themselves to blame for this downfall. A submissive Afghan side succumbed to the likes of Jason Roy, Joe Root and Jofra Archer who teamed up leading to the opposition’s downfall.

Archer drew the first blood in this match by getting the wicket of Hazratullah Zazai for 11 runs. Mohammad Shahzad didn’t play in this encounter and Noor Ali Zadran opened the innings in his place. Although he looked good initially, he couldn’t make it big. After scoring 30 runs, he ended up dragging one back onto his stumps. None of the batsmen in the top seven could score more than 30 runs.

The next highest score amongst the top seven batsmen was by Hashmatullah Shahidi who mustered 19 runs. At 92/8, the side looked in all sorts of bother and was staring at a massive embarrassment. But Mohammad Nabi came to their rescue. Coming in six down, he scored 44 runs off 42 balls and was the last man to fall. His knock helped his team get to 160/10 in 38.4 overs.

Jason Roy blows the opposition apart

England got off to a flyer in the chase with both the openers going all guns blazing right from the start. In the first powerplay, they accrued 100 runs despite losing the wicket of Jonny Bairstow for 39. But Jason Roy and Joe Root ensured that no wickets fell further. They played aggressive yet risk-free knocks. The opener played some great shots and hit the ball to all corners of the ground.

He made the most of every loose ball that was bowled and ensured that they were all sent to the boundary. Roy took just 46 balls to stay unbeaten on 89 in an innings that included 11 fours and 4 sixes. Root, on the other hand, played cautiously and stayed unbeaten on 29 balls. England won the game by 9 wickets and Twitterati was all praise for the English opener. They also hailed Root and Jofra Archer for their bowling efforts in this game.
