The Northern Superchargers got out of jail in their match against the Welsh Fire. However, on Monday, against the Trent Rockets, they looked clinical, having won by 27 runs at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Jemimah Rodrigues stole the show yet again as her team moved atop the points table. The Rockets, in the meantime, moved right at the bottom of the points table with two losses.

Rodrigues steps up yet again

After electing to bat first, the Superchargers racked up 149 in their 100 balls innings. Lauren Winfield and Jemimah Rodrigues started with a 64-run stand off 54 balls. Sarah Glenn separated the duo, getting rid of Winfield, who scored a 29-ball 33 with three fours and a six. However, Jemimah carried on and guided the Superchargers. She notched back-to-back fifties and notched 60 off 41 with 10 fours.

She also got decent support from Laura Kimmince, who managed a 13-ball 31. Rodrigues and Kimmince stared a stand of 64 runs off 25 balls for the third wicket. For the Rockets, Sammy-Jo Johnson was the standout performer as she picked up four crucial wickets and conceded only 15 runs off 20 balls. Katherine Brunt, Heather Graham and Glenn picked up one wicket each.

Brunt’s valiant efforts in vain

In the run-chase, Sammy-Jo Johnson and Rachel Priest got out cheaply. However, Brunt and Natalie Sciver kept the Rockets in the game with a 37-run stand off 29 balls. Sciver scored 33 runs off 23 balls with the help of six fours and she played at a strike rate of 143.48. After Hollie Armitage got rid of Sciver, Brunt didn’t get the apt support from the others as the Rockets kept sliding down the barrel.

Brunt went on to stay not out on 43 off 36 with four fours. The batters in the lower order could never get going as the Superchargers’ bowlers dictated terms. In the end, the Rockets managed only 122 runs. Alice Davidson Richards and Katie Levick picked up two important wickets each for the Superchargers. Linsey Smith and Elizabeth Russell got two crucial wickets in crunch moments of the game.
