Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locked horns on Sunday afternoon. After losing the toss, the Royals needed a good start and their opener Jos Buttler stepped up to the task playing the best knock of his IPL career. Sanju Samson supported him well as the duo smashed runs in the second-wicket stand helping the Royals post a mammoth total of 220 runs.
SRH dropped their talismanic cricketer David Warner for this match after stripping him off captaincy on Saturday. The new skipper Kane Williamson, however, didn’t look prepared for the job and made a few baffling decisions in the middle. Bringing Rashid Khan early into the attack worked for SRH though as the leg-spinner dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal in his very first over.
But he was introduced early to dismiss Jos Buttler having sent him back to the pavilion four times in five innings for just 10 runs. That didn’t happen though as the England batsman somehow played out the Afghanistan leggie safely. Rashid finished his four overs for just 24 runs but couldn’t pick more than a wicket.
Jos Buttler shifts gears in the second half
Jos Buttler looked scratchy in the first half of the innings and it seemed as if he was looking to save from Rashid. But once the latter’s spell ended, Buttler literally opened up all the floodgates for the runs to flow. He put on an exhibition of some sublime hitting to smack as many as 11 fours and 8 sixes.
He took the toll of some poor calculations in bowling from SRH as Williamson bowled out most of his frontline bowlers before the death overs itself. Probably that was a tactic to go for wickets. However, the likes of Khaleel Ahmed and Sandeep Sharma went for runs even in the middle overs and in the end, three overs of the 5th bowler were left after 15 overs ended in the innings.
This is what Buttler was waiting for as he shifted gears superbly to the next level to reach his maiden IPL century off just 56 balls and the carnage continued. Finally, Jos, the Boss, was dismissed in the 19th over but not before scoring 124 runs off 64 deliveries. On the back of his knock, the Royals managed to post 220 runs on the board in their 20 overs as all the SRH bowlers apart from Rashid took a serious beating.

Maiden IPL century for Jos Buttler, what an innings this has been for him. Last 67 runs he scored in just 21 balls, a quality knock from a quality player. The way he accelerated after crossing fifty was brilliant.

Fantastic @josbuttler @rajasthanroyals has set it up. If bowlers bowl poorly changing captain wonβt do anything for @SunRisers

221 to win. The kind of chase that needs Warner to fire, if Warner weren't fired.— Ramesh Srivats (@rameshsrivats) May 2, 2021
Jos wasnβt timing the ball all that well for the first 40-45 runs….and still he went on to hit 124. πββοΈ One of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball. #JosTheBoss #RR #RRvSRH
