Jamaica Tallawahs have regained their second spot in the table in the 2021 CPL after their thumping six-wicket win over Barbados Royals. They chased down 152 with as many as 14 balls to spare. As far as the Royals are concerned, they have now lost three out of their four matches.

Azam Khan lifts the Royals

After electing to bat first, the Royals put up 151 for eight in 20 overs. Shai Hope and Kyle Mayers got out in the single digits to Fidel Edwards. Johnson Charles couldn’t get going either. Glenn Phillips looked good for his 29-ball 31 before he became Migael Pretorius’ second victim.

Skipper Jason Holder couldn’t open his account as Andre Russell picked up his first wicket. From there on, Azam Khan took over. The Pakistan batter scored 50 off 30 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. For the Royals, Joshua Bishop picked up three wickets.

Lewis stands tall for the Tallawahs

In the run-chase, the Tallawahs lost Chadwick Walton, Haider Ali and skipper Rovman Powell couldn’t get into the double digits. However, thereafter, Kennar Lewis and Shamarh Brooks took charge of them. The duo stitched together a partnership of 93 runs for the fourth wicket.

Lewis got the highest individual score in the CPL as he notched a 53-ball 89 with nine fours and five sixes. Brooks lent him the apt support with an unbeaten 26-ball 47. Andre Russell also muscled Holder for a six over deep mid-wicket, summing up the Tallawahs impressive show.

The dew played a major part, says Jason Holder

After playing the match-winning knock, Lewis was over the moon as he was able to express himself. “Always a pleasure to finish off a game for your side. Feels so good going in after that. That’s what I have to do, express myself with the bat,” Lewis was quoted as saying.

Holder reckoned that dew turned out to be a thorn in the Royals’ flesh. “The dew played a major part. We didn’t have enough runs on the board and we didn’t field well too. We have been OK [on the spinners], Hayden Walsh has been below-par, hopefully, he will come good in the later stages of the tournament,” Holder said.
