Oh cricket! You never cease to amaze us. A match that was in KKR’s bag was almost snatched away from them by the Delhi Capitals before Rahul Tripathi’s sensational six took the Eoin Morgan led side over the line. And that is why it is not over UNTIL IT IS OVER.

Chasing a target of 136, the KKR openers came out all guns blazing and pounded the Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack to submission. Venkatesh Iyer and Shubman Gill put on a sensational 96-run opening stand off just 12.2 overs. Iyer was at his flamboyant best in this match. The left-hander scored a classy 55 off 41 deliveries at the top of the order.

After Iyer’s departure, Nitish Rana came in and put on a 27-run stand with Gill. But then, with KKR just 13 runs short of victory, Rana hooked Anrich Nortje straight to the fielder at deep square leg, and that led to wickets falling in a heap.

Shubman Gill departed with KKR within touching distance of victory, nicking Avesh Khan to Rishabh Pant. Then 4 batsmen were dismissed without troubling the scorers. Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan were cleaned up for ducks, while Shakib Al Hasan was trapped plumb in front of the stumps by Ravichandran Ashwin for nought.

Sunil Narine too departed without troubling the scorers and was removed by the wily Ashwin. But then, Tripathi saved the day for the KKR side by smashing a six off the penultimate delivery of the match!

With the ball, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, and Ravichandran Ashwin scalped 2 wickets each, while Avesh Khan picked up a solitary scalp. And with this victory, the KKR side has booked its place in the final and will clash with MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings in the summit clash on 15th October 2021.

Delhi Capitals huff and puff to 135/5

Batting first, the Delhi Capitals produced a poor performance with the willow. The Delhi Capitals’ innings never really ‘took off’, and in their allotted 20 overs, the Rishabh Pant led outfit could only post a total of 135/5 on the board.

Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan put on a 32-run stand for the opening wicket. After Shaw’s departure in the 5th over, Marcus Stoinis was promoted to No.3, and scratched his way to 18 at a strike rate of just 78.26. Shikhar Dhawan too scored a slow 39-ball 36 as well.

Shimron Hetmyer contributed a breezy 10-ball 17 lower down the order. With the ball, Varun Chakravarthy was the pick of the bowlers for the KKR side. The spinner scalped 2 wickets in the 4 overs that he bowled, and gave away 26 runs. Apart from Chakravarthy, Lockie Ferguson and Shivam Mavi also picked up a wicket each as well.
