By losing six games in a row, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have done themselves no good in this edition of the IPL. They had a terrific start to the tournament and won four out of the first five games. However, they have drifted apart as the tournament has progressed and made the qualification scenario extremely difficult. With three games remaining, they need to win all of them to provide themselves with the best opportunity.

In the first of these remaining games against the Mumbai Indians, the KKR batters have done a great job. It was an absolute run feast at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. All the batsmen went bonkers after the Mumbai bowling attack. Firstly, the openers Shubman Gill and Chris Lynn were on fire. The duo added 96 runs together in just 9.3 overs.

Shubman Gill misses out again on a well-deserved century

Chris Lynn was at his aggressive best and there were no half measures in his approach. He scored 54 runs from 29 balls and got the team off to an excellent start. The KKR management finally paid heeds to the requests from the fans and the analysts. They decided to send Andre Russell to bat at number three. However, he was very passive in his partnership with Gill.

Shubman Gill batted beautifully and smashed even the best in the business for regular boundaries. However, he missed out on getting to the triple digits despite having a wonderful opportunity. Hardik Pandya dismissed him for 76 in the 16th over of the game. After the fall of this wicket, Andre Russell joined hands with Dinesh Karthik to build up a destructive partnership.

The Jamaican scored 29 runs off the first 21 balls that he faced in his innings. But in the next 19 balls, Dre Russ scored 51 runs. Moreover, he didn’t take two singles that were on offer in the last over. His 40-ball 80 helped KKR get to a mammoth score of 232/2 in 20 overs. Twitterati erupted in joy after the KKR batsmen played this way. The batsmen have done their job and it is now up to the bowlers to win them the game.

Here is how Twitterati reacted after KKR put up the humungous total:
