India continued their winning streak in their ongoing UK tour as they thumped England by 8 wickets at the Old Trafford in Manchester. If Kuldeep Yadav‘s crafty chinaman bowling, which earned him his career-best figures, was not enough, KL Rahul’s scintillating ton in the chase of 160 floored the home side who were flying high after clean-sweeping Australia.

Chasing the total, the visitors lost the in-form Shikhar Dhawan in the very first over who was castled by David Willey. But the joy was short-lived for England as KL Rahul came in to bat at number 3 only to slaughter their bowling attack. It was such a sublime knock from the man in the form of his life who just knew one way to play and that was to send the ball into the stands with authority.

He didn’t spare any bowler but Liam Plunkett suffered the most as he was plundered for most runs. Rahul launched an assault on him even on the front foot when the ball was pitched up and then on the backfoot when he hit the deck hard. He was well supported by Rohit Sharma who was dismissed in the 13th over and the result of the game was only a formality by then.

Rahul and Virat Kohli easily brought up the victory for India with the former notching up his second ton in the T20 Internationals. They gunned down the required score of 160 runs in the 17th over itself and took the lead of 1-0 in the three-match series.

Kuldeep wrecks havoc

Earlier in the game, England were rocked by Kuldeep Yadav who took a sensational five-wicket haul in his four-over spell. He picked the crucial wickets of Eoin Morgan, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root in a single over to derail the innings of the hosts who were well placed to post a mammoth score of around 180. Even Umesh Yadav bowled extremely well on his comeback to return with the figures of 2/21.

It was the in-form Jos Buttler who continued in the same vein while opening the innings. He scored 69 runs off just 46 deliveries and was only sent back by Kuldeep in the 18th over. But his knock exceptional effort was overshadowed quite comfortably by Rahul who just broke England’s bowling attack into pieces.

David Willey though didn’t lose his calm and his quickfire 29-run outing propelled his team to a fighting total of 159 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. In the end, it proved to be way below par as the Men in Blue proved they are a force to reckon with in the T20Is as well.
