An interesting day’s play came to the fore as the first Test between West Indies and Bangladesh is well poised at the moment. Bangladesh managed to revive themselves towards the end of the day’s play with some quick wickets, however, they will need a stellar performance if they have to challenge the West Indian side.

Earlier, West Indies resumed at 95 for 2 with skipper Kraigg Brathwaite batting on 42 and Nkrumah Bonner on 12. The duo cashed in early and took up from where they left on the previous day, starting the day without losing wickets in the first hour. Bonner played well for his 33 off 96 deliveries, however, Shakib Al Hasan managed to clean him up by going through his defences.

Jermaine Blackwood joined hands with Brathwaite and the pair stitched another good partnership of 63 for the fourth wicket, with the latter nearing his century. However, the right-hander was unfortunate to miss out on it by just six runs as Khaled Ahmed trapped him in front of the wickets, after he had faced 268 deliveries.

Once Brathwaite was dismissed, the in-coming batters Kyle Mayers (7) and Joshua Da Silva (1) were dismissed by Mehidy Hasan soon, while Alzarri Joseph and Kemar Roach bagged ducks. Blackwood was running out of partners at the other end, but got some quick runs under his belt as he reached his half-century and took his side to a respectable total of 265 runs. Mehidy picked up four wickets to end up as the pick of the bowlers while Khaled Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain picked up two wickets each.

Trailing by 162 runs, Tamim Iqbal started with a flurry of boundaries but Alzarri Joseph picked him up in the 10th over. Mehidy came to the crease at the fall of the first wicket but Joseph picked him up as well in his very next over. Mahmudul Hasan Joy remained unbeaten on 18 alongside Najmul Hossain Shanto (8*) at the end of day’s play with Bangladesh trailing by 112 runs and eight wickets in hand.
