The defending champions Mumbai Indians have certainly not got their scripts right this season thus far. They have managed to win just one game in the season and in the ongoing fixture, they face a potential threat of losing their fifth match of 2018. Coming in to the game, they fancied their chances against the luckless Rajasthan Royals, who have failed to collectively perform in the recent few games.

However, as the things stand midway through the match, the Mumbai Indians would agree that they lost the plot in the final four overs of the match. At one stage of the game, when Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan were going great guns, the prospect of a total in the proximity of 200 looked like a reasonable one. But the slump from 130/1 to 159/7 saw the innings crash big time. They eventually managed to post 168/7 in the stipulated 20 overs.

Earlier in the game, the Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma chose to go against the trend at the toss. He opted to bat first after winning the coin flip. While MI did not make any change to their lineup, the buzz was high in the Rajasthan Royals camp. Popular T20 specialist Jofra Archer was drafted in for his first IPL game at the expense of Ben Laughlin.

Mumbai Indians had the worst possible start to their innings with Dhawal Kulkarni dismissing Evin Lewis for a golden duck. Suryakumar Yadav was then joined by Ishan Kishan at the crease. The two batsmen not only steadied the ship for the visitors but also ensured that the runs came at a brisk pace. Both batsmen reached their individual fifties in the innings.

While Ishan became Kulkarni’s second scalp with 58 (42) to his name, the knock played by Suryakumar Yadav came to an end in the 16th over bowled by Jaydev Unadkat. Suryakumar scored a brisk 72 off just 47 deliveries with six fours and three sixes to his name. This was his second fifty of the season. A couple of deliveries after his dismissal, Rohit Sharma also perished for a golden duck in the same Unadkat over.

Soon, the wickets started to fall in clusters and the innings never really took off again. Jofra Archer scalped three wickets in the penultimate over to further derail the proceedings for the Mumbai Indians. The Rajasthan Royals would back themselves to win this game.
