The ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) saw the bottom of the table clash today between Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers at the iconic MCG. Both the teams have been virtually ruled out of the tournament and were playing for pride. Though the match was completely a one-sided encounter as Sixers easily gunned down the score posted by Stars on their home ground. However, Twitterati was excited for the game despite being the dead rubber and flooded their tweets on the social media platform.

The visitors won the toss and opted to bowl first on the sluggish wicket. The hosts failed to take the advantage of the powerplay and lost the top three wickets within the first six overs itself. Nathan Lyon was the chief destructor as he scalped Ben Dunk and Kevin Pietersen who can change the game on their own. The wickets kept on falling despite there were a couple of decent partnerships in the middle order. Stars never got any momentum in their innings and could muster only 128 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Lyon was the pick of the bowlers for his team who returned with the figures of 3/18 as Glenn Maxwell was the top scorer for his team scoring 28 off just 16 deliveries.

Maddinson pummels Stars’ bowlers

Melbourne Stars would’ve hoped to restrict Sixers under the target with the bowling variations they had. But Nic Maddinson had other ideas as he played his shots from the word go after the early dismissal of Joe Denly. He was well supported by Daniel Hughes who concentrated on rotating the strike while going for the odd boundary. It was all about the swashbuckling left-hander on the night as he smashed 62 off just 31 deliveries with 6 fours and five maximums.

Hughes remained not-out on 49 off 46 balls as Sixers eventually chased down the target in the 16th over with 29 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand. Jackson Coleman and James Faulkner were the only wicket-takers for the home side as the other bowlers struggled to take the wickets.

Twitterati hailed Maddinson for his wonderful knock and trolled Stars for losing yet another game.

Here’s how they reacted:
