The Dhaka Dynamites have turned out to be a powerhouse in this edition’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Today the team, captained by all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, emerged victorious by 32 runs against Sylhet Sixers, who lost their second match and are languishing at the bottom half of the table. Nicholas Pooran tried his best to deny Dhaka the triumph, but he didn’t get support from the fellow batters.

Talukdar dominates proceedings

The decision to bowl first boomeranged on the Sixers as the Dynamites racked up a substantial 173 for seven in 20 overs. Hazratullah Zazai perished early to Sohail Tanvir, but Sunil Narine and Rony Talukdar didn’t die wondering and put on 67 for the second wicket in 46 balls. Narine smacked two fours and as many sixes to score 25 after which part-time leg spinner Alok Kapali nipped him out in the ninth over.

However, Talukdar went to notch 58 runs from 34 balls with five fours and three hits over the ropes. Captain Shakib also flung his willow to score 23 in 17 balls. Unfortunately, both went back in a space of seven deliveries. The Windies duo of Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard flattered to deceive. Wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan and Naim Sheikh added 48 runs to propel the Dynamites’ score.

A fearless Poooran

The Sixers slumped alarmingly during their run-chase and were reduced to 37 for five in 6.1 overs. The spin trio of Shakib, Narine and Shuvagata Hom turned out to be tough nuts to crack. Even as Shakib nipped out opener David Warner and Nasir Hossain, Narine and Shuvagata dismissed Liton Das and Afif Hossain Dhrubo respectively. From there on, left-hander Nicholas Pooran took the onus upon himself.

He played a lone hand of 72 runs from 47 balls to keep the Sixers in contention for an improbable victory. His knock was laced with one four and as many as nine sixes. Rubel Hossain picked him up in the 18th over and his dismissal virtually pulled the curtains down on the match. Off-spinner Aliss Islam was again marvellous with the ball as he conceded only 14 runs in his four overs and got the wicket of Tanvir.

Here is how Twitterati hailed Pooran and the Dynamites
