The ODI series between the Saffers and the Aussies kick started with a bang at Centurion. The hosts emerged victorious in an action filled encounter. Earlier in the day, it was Faf du Plessis who won the toss as South Africa elected to field first.
Australia began in an emphatic fashion as David Warner and Aaron Finch tried to take full advantage of the powerplay before Wayne Parnell got Warner. Phehlukwayo who was only playing his second game had Finch and Steve Smith back to the pavilion in a single over.
George Bailey played a fantastic innings of 74 as John Hastings too made a valuable contribution with his fifty. Together, they took the Australian total close to 300. Dale Steyn came back well at the death as Australia were restricted to 294/9 in their quota of 50 overs.
Phehlukwayo got four wickets to be the pick of the bowlers for South Africa while Steyn also got a couple of wickets in spite of being expensive. Parnell and Imran Tahir also managed to get a wicket each. Kagiso Rabada was wicketless and was swayed away by the Aussie batsmen.

The Australian bowlers were taken away to the cleaners by the South African openers. Both Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw put up a 145 runs partnership for the first wicket off just 103 balls. De Kock played a majestic innings of 178 from just 113 balls. The knock included 11 sixes and 16 boundaries as the Aussie bowlers took turns to get hit around the park.
South Africa did lose wickets in a haste at the end but they had done more than enough to win this, thanks to de Kock’s heroics. The Proteas chased the target in just 36.2 overs as they won the game by 6 wickets.
He broke a spate of records including the fastest to reach 11 centuries. Twitter had praises for him all over. However, the Australian bowling got trolled for their uselessness on the field. Duminy was deemed to be good for nothing by many.

Why does @jpduminy21 looks under pressure when there's no pressure at all?
Is that a choker's talent?
Duminy goes for 9, SA 280/3#SAvsAUS— Sritama Panda (@crickcosmos) September 30, 2016
JP Duminy is such a piece of baggage for South Africa. What does he actually do? #SAvAUS

Very enjoyable ton from Quinny De Kock. Can't think of too many players who can hit the ball harder, more sweetly. Maybe Stokes? #SAvAUS

Centurion or Wanderers one of the likelier venues for the first 500 total in ODIs

Wow, South Africa, this is a serious pummeling of Australia. @QuinnyDeKock69 demonstrating again what a terrific young player he is.

De Kocks broken his bat – his Dad has told him he will have to buy a replacement out of his pocket money…. #savaus

Only 2 teams successfully chased down more than Aust's 294 in ODI at Centurion. WI v SA in 2004 and SA v Eng earlier this year #SAvAUS

Based on today, I genuinely think it's fair to say that Wayne Parnell is still a very very shit cricketer.

Steyn looking to pad his figures again bowling to the tail – had to be pulled against the good batsmen… #savaus

When South Africa chase this, they'll want to see off the strike bowlers then capitalise when the part-timers come on for their 30 overs.

Pollard runs across from long on, leaps and takes right-hand stunner, realizes he is falling over, lobs it back in play, takes it on rebound

Upside: Bailey's tried to run out all his batting partners today. Only lost one so far. #SAvAUS

The inexperienced Steyn has been hit out of the attack and replaced by the 'quota' bowler… #WhosQuotaNow #savaus

It's beyond me why batsmen get out to Tahir when they know perfectly well how obnoxious his celebrations are. #SAvAUS
— Dan Liebke (@LiebCricket) September 30, 2016
Tahir was already half way to the boundary celebrating, if he was over the stumps it would be out… #savaus

With Australia's bowling line up today, as long as we get somewhere between 650 and 700 we should be pretty safe. #SAvAUS

FUN FACT: Maxwell would have brought up his half century by now. #funfact
