After a demoralizing defeat in Cuttack, Thisara Perera won the toss one more time in the 2nd T20I game which Sr Lanka has to win to stay alive in the 3-match series. In the first four overs of the innings, both the Indian openers hit just 3 fours and a six. Fourth over, well carnage started when Nuwan Pradeep started his first over. Two fours and a six. That was enough for Rohit Sharma to get charged up and blast his way through.
Batting the way the two Indians were, the team completed their 100 in the 10th over as Rohit demolished Asela Gunaratne when he smashed him for 2 fours and 2 sixes. What next? Well, Thisara Perera returned for his second over only to receive some massive spankings as Rohit smashed 4 sixes in the Perera over.
A four in the next over to reach his hundred in 35-balls. With that, he equalled the record for the fastest century in T20I cricket, the record held by South Africa’s David Miller. The Indian skipper didn’t stop there as he smashed two more six and a four off Dushmantha Chameera before getting out eventually for 118 runs. He played just 43 balls and caressed 12 fours also smacking 10 sixes.
Nobody seemed to notice KL Rahul who was playing some mean shots at the other end. He got into the act once his partner was dismissed and got to his half century. Rahul launched his grenades as he smashed sixes at will. Some brilliant looking shots against the quicks over the cover boundary. He hit another massive six off Pradeep before getting caught by Dickwella brilliantly behind the wicket. He returned with 89 from just 49 balls having struck five fours and eight sixes.
Dhoni was asked to walk in at 3, and though he didn’t get off the mark in expected fashion played a steady knock of 28. Hardik Pandya came, smashed a four and six and got out to the next ball. Dinesh Karthik who finally got an opportunity to bat also hit a boundary towards the end. Thisara Perera gave just seven runs in his over and picked up two wickets in the last over but could not stop India from posting a massive 260 runs for 5.

The last time MS Dhoni batted at number three before today in any format in international cricket was in an ODI against Sri Lanka in Rajkot in 2009. #INDvSL
