Absolute Wow hitting this game witnessed! Probably India’s two future openers at the international level – Ruturaj Gaikwad and Yashasvi Jaiswal – put on an exhibition of some classic batting and records tumbled like anything. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were led by Ruturaj Gaikwad’s scintillating maiden hundred and what followed later was absolute carnage which very few expected from the Rajasthan Royals.

It was a must-win game for the Men in Pink and boy didn’t they make it memorable for them? Chasing 190 runs with a place in the playoffs at stake, Yashasvi Jaiswal took the onus on himself to smack the ball to all parts of the ground at will. Even the hitter like Evin Lewis was in the awe of his batting and all of them were proper cricketing shots.

The carnage was such in the powerplay overs that RR comfortably crossed their best ever score in the 1-6 overs against CSK in the IPL history. They scored 81 runs in first six overs, their highest ever score in the IPL and 50 of them were from Jaiswal who brought up his half-century off just 19 deliveries, the second fastest by an uncapped player in the tournament history.

Evin Lewis played his part in the partnership as well smashing 27 off just 12 balls but he was bound to get overshadowed with Jaiswal playing eye-pleasing and clean strokes. Even after both the openers got out, there was no respite for CSK bowlers who stumbled upon a certain Shivam Dube, playing his first match of the second leg.

He came out and played his shots with fearless approach. It was just stand and deliver for the left-hander and the 190-run target was within touching distance for RR in no time. 150 came up for them in the 13th over and from there on, it was a cakewalk for the Royals. Dube reached his half-century off just 31 balls and stayed unbeaten on 64 as they got home in the 18th over of the innings.

This win comes as a huge boost for RR in terms of net run-rate as they continue to stay alive in the tournament and now there are four teams fighting for that fourth playoff spot. For CSK, well they have nothing much to worry about having qualified for the playoffs already and they can still make it to the top two as well.

A class personified knock Gaikwad goes in vain

Even though the Royals pummelled CSK in the chase to get home easily, what happened in earlier in the game must have made each and every fan feel blessed to be watching the way Ruturaj Gaikwad played. The man never lost his shape while playing clean shots and like Jaiswal, all of them were proper textbook strokes. Having scored his first 30 runs for almost 100 strike-rate, Gaikwad shifted gears superbly to make it to the 90s in 50-odd deliveries.

Gaikwad scored nine fours and five sixes during his 60-ball 101 and the maximum off the last ball of the innings to bring up his maiden IPL ton, was a whopping 108-metre long. The innings ended on a high for CSK as they posted 189 runs in their 20 overs and along with Ruturaj, the credit has to go to Ravindra Jadeja as well for that.

The left-hander has wonderfully moulded himself as a finisher in the last couple of years. He smashed an unbeaten 32 off just 15 deliveries with four fours and a six. It was Rahul Tewatia who starred with the ball for the Royals and was one of the reasons that CSK’s acceleration delayed. The leg-spinner picked up three wickets sending back Du Plessis, Moeen Ali and Suresh Raina.

As for CSK, all the class shown by Ruturaj Gaikwad went in vain in the end as the Royals batters were in an entirely different zone on the day.
