St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have looked ominous in the ongoing edition of the CPL. The Dwayne Bravo-lead team has won four games in a row to carry their stupendous form. In their fourth game, they defeated the Jamaica Tallawahs by six wickets at the Warner Park in St Kitts.

Bravo steals the show for the Patriots

After being put in to bat first, the Tallawahs managed only 166 for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Chadwick Walton and Kennar Lewis’ 41-run stand off 22 balls set the tone for the innings. The Tallawahs’ innings was mostly about short, but useful contributions from all their batsmen.

Walton’s 26, Rovman Powell’s 24, and Carlos Brathwaite’s 27 helped the team reach the competitive score. Migael Pretorius’ five-ball 15 also propelled Jamaica’s score. For the Patriots, Dwayne Bravo picked up three wickets. Dominic Drakes and Paul van Meekeren got two wickets each.

In the run-chase, Devon Thomas strained, but Evin Lewis’ 27-ball 39 with two fours and four sixes gave the Patriots momentum. Asif Ali and Ravi Bopara couldn’t make much of an impact. In the last 34 balls, the team needed some big hits as they were required to score at around 10 runs per over.

From there on, Sherfane Rutherford came to the party.  The southpaw scored 50 off 26 with two fours and four sixes. The left-hander got the apt support from Fabian Allen, who made an unbeaten 12-ball 30 with two fours and three sixes. The Patriots chased the target down with 14 balls left.

Bravo is a special person: Sherfane Rutherford

After the Patriots’ win, Rutherford talked about his responsibility to the team. He also lauded Bravo for allowing him to play with a free mind in the tournament.

“Coming into this tournament, I felt I owe some responsibility. I was given a chance to bat in the top order and have given myself time to score runs. There were a lot of weaknesses in my batting. I went to the drawing board and tried to improve my game.

“The journey has been a good one coming into this game. Bravo is a special person. He asked me to play with a free mind. There is no pressure and the freedom I get from him is wonderful,” Rutherford was quoted as saying.
