Sylhet Sixers have pulled off a stunning performance in a must-win game against the Rajshahi Kings in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). They thumped the Kings who are also in the race of the playoffs by 76 runs. The Sixers are currently at the sixth position and will need to win all their remaining matches while also hope that a few results go their way.
As far as the match is concerned, after being put in to bat first, Sabbir Rahman lost his wicket for just a solitary run. Though his partner Liton Das played a few shots before he was snaffled on 13-ball 24. Then came Jason Roy who was playing his first match of the season and tonked the ball nicely. He stitched a 62-run stand with Nicholas Pooran. After scoring 42 runs off 28 balls, Seekkuge Prasanna castled Roy.
Runs came at the quick flow but the wickets kept on falling for the Sixers and it looked like they will finish with an under par score. But Sohail Tanvir slammed 23 off 10 balls with four fours to propel his team to 180/6 after 20 overs. Sixers scored 41 runs in last 14 balls and the total suddenly looked a lot for the Kings.
Kings crumble under pressure
Rajshahi Kings had an in-form Laurie Evans at the top of the order. But his wicket in the very first over toppled their plans of chasing down the total entirely. Apart from Fazle Mahmud, none of the batsmen could stay in the middle. Tanvir shone with the ball as well to end with the figures of 3/17. Fazle slammed an impressive half-century and was dismissed on 50 off 41 balls.
The Kings collapsed from being 81/3 to 104 all-out mostly due to the pressure of the asking rate. The loss has put their knockout chances in trouble and their net run-rate has also taken a hit. Tanvir, for his all-round show, was awarded the Man of the Match.
Here’s how Twitter reacted:
If Jason Roy is hitting spinners out of the ground. You know the pitch must be good.#BPL

After Sohail Tanvir took his third wicket,
BPL commentator: Tanvir has contributed with the ball, and now he is contributing with the bat.
