The Chittagong Vikings lost their final game in the league stages of the BPL 2019. The Sylhet Sixers were too good for them on the night and registered a 29-run win. The Sixers ended their disappointing tournament on a high and also played the party-spoilers for the Vikings.

Had they won this game, the Chittagong franchise had a wonderful opportunity to finish in the top two. This would have given them a second chance in the playoffs just in case they required one. However, they will now have to settle with a spot in the playoff games. At the most, they will finish fourth on the points table if the Dhaka Dynamites win tomorrow.

Andre Fletcher plays a responsible knock for the Syhlet Sixers

The Sylhet Sixers were put into bat first by the opposition in this encounter. Hardus Viljoen, who joined the Vikings was brilliant as he dismissed both Afif Hossain and Jason Roy for 1 and 11 runs respectively. But, Andre Fletcher played a responsible knock from one end. With some support from Sabbir Rahman, he scored 66 runs off 53 deliveries.

Mohammad Nawaz provided the team with the final impetus as he scored 34 off 19 balls. Viljoen, who has been in great form in recent times, proved his prowess in his maiden BPL outing this season. He picked up four wickets in his quota of four overs and conceded only 29 runs. The Sixers finished with a score of 165/5 in 20 overs which looked quite good halfway through the match.

Mushfiqur Rahim threatens to take the game away from the opposition

With 3/2 to start off with, the Chittagong Vikings didn’t have a good start to the innings. Both their openers were dismissed cheaply and the side looked to be under pressure. But, Yasir Ali and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim put things back on track up to a certain extent with a nice partnership. Ali departed after scoring run-a-ball 27.

Mushfiqur, though, was going strong from one end. He was joined by Mosaddek Hossain who scored a quickfire 25 off 15. But just as this pair was looking threatening, Ebadat Hossain broke the partnership. Soon, Rahim was also run out bringing an end to his threatening 32-ball 48. There wasn’t anything left in the batting after this. The team was ultimately bundled out for 136 runs in 18.3 overs.

Twitterati was disappointed with this loss for the Vikings. They were all praise for Viljoen and expected him to continue with the same kind of performance in the playoffs as well. The Sylhet Sixers fans were glad that their team finished with a win.
