The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the national squads for the tours to Zimbabwe and West Indies. While India plays 3 ODIs and 3 T20s in Zimbabwe, the team is set to follow it up with a 4-match Test series in West Indies.
MS Dhoni will continue to lead the side in Zimbabwe but the team boasts of no other senior member. While KL Rahul and Yuzvendra Chahal made it to the team after their stellar performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. The biggest surprise pick in the limited overs tour was Central Zone batsman Faiz Fazal. The 30-year old received his first national call-up.

Mandeep Singh, Jayant Yadav, Karun Nair and Dhawal Kulkarni got their opportunities to wear the limited overs jersey too. For the Test team, that would tour West Indies, Suresh Raina remains to be the biggest omission. KL Rahul was rewarded with the Test cap as well. Rahul already has a Test ton to his name. While the rest of the team looks pretty much like the previous team that hosted South Africa last year, Shardul Thakur comes in as the X-factor.
Thakur has been a domestic performer for the last couple of seasons and received his call up at a time when he ended as Mumbai’s leading wicket taker this year in the Ranji Trophy. Stuart Binny has also managed to keep his place in the 17-man team. Virat Kohli will take charge of the Test team that has named Wriddhiman Saha as the wicket-keeper.

Very strong message from Dhoni, and about his future, by leading team to Zimbabwe. Wonderful for juniors to play alongside him.

Naming 17 players for a Test series makes no sense; except the fact that at least one player is a compromise candidate on tour

Faiz Fazal's 127 in the 4th innings had helped Rest India beat Mumbai by 4 wkts while chasing a target of 480 in the Irani Cup in March!

Dhoni was very keen to tour with the youngsters. This is a very good sign. He has ample experience: Mr. Patil

India picks 5 uncapped players for their tour to Zimbabwe, MS Dhoni to lead the side. #ZIMvIND

Dhoni going to Zimbabwe is a good move. India play very few ODI / T20Is this season. 5 ODIs v NZ in Oct & then 5 ODIs / 1 T20I v Eng in Jan.

KL Rahul has kept wickets before. Selectors have talked to him and asked him to focus on that also: Patil

Stuart Binny's selection continues to be a mystery. Expected Naman in Tests.
