Things weren’t really going in his favor; he wasn’t getting the runs when it mattered, his technique was questioned, he was moving around a bit too much around the crease and one got the feeling Pakistan would soon like to look over Younis Khan. But just when the pressure was starting to mount his pacified things with a stupendous double ton against England in the last Test.
He started well on the 2nd day after their bowlers had bowled out England for 328. Younis first found a partner in Asad Shafiq who was the aggressor among the two in their 150+ runs partnership. Both the batsmen dug in deep and defied the English attack to get to their centuries on the second day itself. They took their time, played out overs when it mattered and scored off the bowlers and balls that posed a lesser risk.
Shafiq got out soon after his hundred for 109 runs but Younis continued. He was the man on a mission. The 38-year old reminded most of his peak when he would stand as an undeniable force in the Pakistan middle-order holding things together and sailing the team through tough waters. He walked out fresh on the third morning with more resolve. This time, it was wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed who gave him support from the other end. Younis took his time to get off the mark but as he eventually did the English bowlers were yet to find a delivery to get the better of the veteran.
Just at the stroke of Lunch with a 75-run lead a Steven Finn delivery hit him on the pads and umpire Bruce Oxenford raised his finger. Younis, who was batting on 133 believed it had hit him too high to be out and reviewed it. The decision was overturned and he now had the best chance to make it count.

He batted fluently after Lunch and continued to score the runs and he got there in epic style with a six. Younis took off his helmet and raised the bat for the second time in the inning as he had touched the triple figures for the second time. It was his 6th double ton, the joint most by a Pakistan batsman while he is already the highest run scorer for the team in Tests.
Younis eventually got out after scoring 218 runs from 308 balls and had ensured Pakistan extended the first innings lead beyond 200 runs.
