Yes! Finally, the speculations came out to be true and Dale Steyn is joining the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. Steyn will be replacing injured Australian pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile, who was supposed to join RCB after the Pakistan ODI series. He started his career for the RCB itself.

Dale Steyn had played for Deccan Chargers in IPL 2011 and 2012, before moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad. After appearing for Gujarat Lions in IPL 2016, Steyn had pulled out of IPL 2017 due to his shoulder injury which was to keep him out of the game for a year. In IPL 2018 and IPL 2019, Steyn went unsold in the auctions.

Steyn had raised doubts amongst the Indian IPL fans when he shared a photo of his passport showing his visa for India on his Instagram story. Steyn is one of the most prolific wicket-takers in the Indian T20 league, taking 92 wickets in 90 matches with an economy of 6.72 and the best bowling performance of 3/8.

This is not the first time Dale Steyn is playing for the Bengaluru team, as he played the first three seasons for RCB and had taken 27 wickets in 28 matches from 2008-2010. Injuries have derailed his career a bit in the past 2-3 years but has made a successful come back to mainstream cricket nicely.

Virat Kohli, who was just a 19-year-old new recruit the last time he and Steyn played together for RCB, will now captain the Phalaborwa-born pacer after 10 years. The RCB team really needs something different to bring themselves out of the black hole that is their performance in IPL 2019, which has seen them losing six out of six matches played so far, even at home.

Their fast bowling unit is so bad that they have been unable to defend even a score of 190 plus on M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Addition of Dale Steyn will bring experience to their attack and will help the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini enhance their performance from here on.
