Team India’s no. 4 conundrum in the One-Day Internationals has not solved yet. With the World cup less than a year away, they will have to at least a short-term solution to it and play with a settled side now. Meanwhile, Manish Pandey showed displayed great skills with the bat in the recently concluded quadrangular series. He was the captain of the India B team which won the tournament on the back of some brilliant show by Pandey himself.

He was consistent right through the series while batting at 4 and led the team from the front. Pandey amassed a massive 306 runs in four matches and amazingly wasn’t dismissed even once. This proves that he has also emerged as the finisher and made sure in all the matches that he stayed unbeaten for the team until the end. Not that he played slowly and saved his wicket, the 28-year-old smashed the runs at a strike-rate of 101 and never let the run-scoring go down.

Pandey hasn’t played an ODI this year

Manish Pandey has so far played 22 ODIs for India and has scored 432 at an average close to 40 and a decent strike-rate of 93. But his inconsistency has proved to be his undoing which led to the selectors dropping him from the team late last year. He is yet to play an ODI this year and his recent performances might make the selectors think of him straight away.

Pandey also has a competition from Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav who played in the quadrangular series. The former also showed superb resilience for India A and scored 187 runs at an average of 62 while Jadhav comes into the contention right away as he was injured during the IPL and wasn’t dropped from the team.

The selectors are set to pick the squad for the Asia Cup on September 1 and Twitter is overwhelmed with the performance of Pandey. They want him to be back in the India squad as the selectors will look to build a strong team looking at the mega event next year.
