It was a huge occasion for the 20-year-old Rishabh Pant who made his Test debut in the ongoing third Test match at Trent Bridge. He was drafted into the playing XI in the place of Dinesh Karthik who failed to perform in the first two Tests. The youngster came into bat on the first day of the Test match during the final session of play and opened his account by smashing a six over the long-on region off a delivery bowled by the leg-spinner, Adil Rashid.
It was expected to be a massive challenge for Pant to face quality bowlers like James Anderson, Stuart Broad and the rest of the England bowlers in tough conditions. Earlier, many former cricketers had also advocated for his inclusion in the Test team as Karthik looked seriously out of form. The India A coach Rahul Dravid also mentioned that Pant has the temperament and the skill to play the longest format of the game.
Broad’s nasty send-off to the debutant
Rishabh Pant looked to be a confident batsman in his debut outing as he played with a positive mindset. He scored a quick-fire 22 runs and remained unbeaten at the end of the first day’s play and resumed rather patiently on the following day. However, the conditions on the second day were very much difficult with the England bowlers moving the ball both ways. Pant fell prey to one nipping delivery bowled by Broad. The in-swinging delivery found an inside edge and shattered straight back on to the stumps.
After the dismissal, the veteran England fast bowler got involved in a charging altercation with Pant and fired some nasty words at the youngster. However, it was probably an act to show him a taste of some aggressive Test match cricket or the other strange possibility for that send-off could be that Broad was not happy with Pant taking a lot of time to be ready to face the deliveries.
The cricketing fans on Twitter were also angry with Broad for showing his aggression towards the youngster unnecessarily. While some of them felt that the bowler should be reprimanded for his actions, few trolled him hilariously as he was out to bat in the middle only after three hours with his team in tatters.
Here are the Twitter reactions:
Broad, don't speak you idiot. Just watch that face and store it in your head. He will be giving you and your country nightmares in the years to come.

Dear Broad,
Just to remind you – Kohli knows how to give it back 👊
Wait and watch, now. #ENGvIND— Prajakta Bhawsar (@ViratsFangirl18) August 19, 2018
Lol Stuart Broad saying a few words n giving send off to debutant Rishabh Pant. Try doing that to Virat Kohli 😂
Doesn't matter now. #ViratKohli will take a note of this for sure 😂#ENGvIND

Rahul Dravid once said, "I believe, having a go with abuse to a batsmen who has just got out, is an act of coward"
Harsha Bhogle just reiterated it.
And yes, it is an act of coward. #ENGvIND

Broad should be scared considering what India has in their armour when it comes to sledging. pic.twitter.com/tWz4TRyFrS

Broad sledging, cute. Expect it to more amplified by Virat Kohli. Especially since a newbie has been sledged at. This is going to be fun 🔥. #ENGvIND

On the Broad's send-off to Pant, was uncalled for. Well, that's Broad.
But having a go at the batsman after he is out makes no sense.

Send off by Broad after dismissing Pant was not good.Match referee must take some action.

What did Pant do to Broad that forced the send-off? Whacked him over his head? You have to expect a T20 star to do that to you.
— Alagappan V (@IndianMourinho) August 19, 2018
Will @StuartBroad8 get reprimanded for that send off to Pant? Or will he again get leniency coz of his father. Don't recall any referee punishing Broad

Stuart broad is so lucky to have the surname that he has. He will probably get away because the men who have to report him first have to work with his dad as well. Let’s see if any of the on field umpires have the guts to report him for his Pant send-off #cricket #EngvInd

I'm English and I'm embarrassed by that send off Stuart Broad gave a young Pant on debut. Maybe frustration after bowling well yesterday and not getting wickets. Hope he looks back and regretts it. Game needs a bit of spice but not like that. #ENGvIND #Broad #Pant

Rishab Pant answering Broad's sledging in the best possible manner. 5th catch in the innings, icing on the cake would be broad caught behind with a Pant send-off! 😋#ENGvIND
