Buttler scored an unbeaten 80 in the Leeds Test and was the Player of the Match.

England selectors surprisingly called back Jos Buttler into the Test side for the Pakistan series. He hadn’t played any Test cricket since December 2016 but his impressive show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) prompted them to give the hammering batsman another shot. He represented Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and scored 548 runs in 13 matches winning games for his team almost single-handedly.

He replicated similar performance for England and scored a half century in the first Test at Lord’s, in the second game he stayed there till the end, batted with the tail and remained unbeaten on 80 to ensure the team got enough first innings lead to win the game by an innings. Buttler was the Player of the Match but something that stole a lot of limelight apart from his batting was his bat and the message written on top of the handle.

Two words of motivation

The wicketkeeper-batsman has for long written ‘fu** it’ that he says keeps him motivated when the going gets tough on the field. It was just that the cameraman zoomed into it this time when he had kept his bat and helmet down that it was out for people to see.

In an interview with Michael Vaughan in 2015, Buttler had revealed why he wrote that.

“I was constantly searching for something and you kid yourself that someone out there has got that secret to batting that they can give you one piece of advice that will enable you to go and score a hundred every time,” he told Vaughan during an interview with the Telegraph.

“It is silly. By trying to learn I confused myself. But you know what? If I just watch the ball and let my natural instinct take over I back myself to get something on the ball whether I bat right or left handed,” Buttler had said.
