Twitterti react to the rare instance as MS Dhoni got out stumped

MS Dhoni has been known as a messiah in world cricket when it comes to effecting stumpings. However, today he found himself at the receiving end as Adam Zampa got the better of him. This attracted a lot of surprising reactions from the fans since it’s usually the other way round.

Batting on 13 (15) and trying to rescue India after a top order collapse, Dhoni came ahead to get to the pitch of the ball and defend it. However, Zampa saw him approach and pulled the length just shorter which got him more turn and bounce and Dhoni couldn’t get bat on ball. Wicketkeeper Tim Paine gathered the ball nicely as he hit the stumps while he was well out of the crease.

As Dhoni walked back, it was an irony to watch the stumper getting stumped. Just recently, he completed 100 stumpings in One Day Internationals and became the first player to do so. He has been known for effecting the quickest stumpings and thus it was a surprise to watch him fall for one. This was only the fifth occasion where he was caught outside his crease by the wicketkeeper in international cricket with the last being in the World Cup 2011 against Windies.

In the second T20I at Guwahati, the Australian bowlers did a stupendous job to restrict the Indian total of 118. Jason Behrendorff was brilliant on the night as he picked up four wickets and took the Man of the Match award in his second T20I appearance. On the other hand, Indian batsmen had a rare failure in the current series as none of them could play a substantial knock. Australia in reply sailed through the total with 8 wickets and 4.3 overs in hand to level the series 1-1.

Twitter had some amazing reactions on the stumped. While some lauded Adam Zampa for cleverly outfoxing Dhoni, others trolled the master for getting a taste of his own medicine. Some bashed him for his dismal performance and demanded his ouster from T20Is while some defended him.
