The thirteenth day of the ICC Under-19 World Cup was a witness to a drab Quarter-Final encounter between India and Bangladesh at Queenstown. While India came into the game with three consecutive victories, Bangladesh suffered a hefty defeat against England in their last league game after two comprehensive victories against Canada and Namibia.
Prithvi Shaw and India won the toss and chose to bat first. They lost Manjot Kalra to Qazi Onik in the fourth over, However, the skipper and Shubman Gill compiled a stand of 86 runs and got India back into the game. Both eventually scored 40 and 86 runs respectively. The half-century by Gill was his third in as many innings in the tournament.
Abhishek Sharma’s gutsy knock ensured that India posted a score of substantial score of 265 runs on the board. Qazi Onik and spinner Nayeem Hasan were the major wicket-takers with three and two wickets respectively. Bangladesh started cautiously, but lost wickets at regular intervals which pushed them back. Pinak Ghosh looked determined, but perished to Anukul Roy for 43 runs.
Bangladesh could eventually manage 134 runs and crashed out of the tournament. Abhishek Sharma, after impressing with the willow, also picked up a couple of wickets. Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagrkoti got two wickets each and piled on the agony for the Bangladeshis. India also fielded well and inflicted a couple of run-outs in the outfield.
Windies thrash Canada
The Windies and Canada locked horns in the 9th place semi-final game at Lincoln. The Windies comprehensively brushed aside the Canadians and humbled them by 187 runs. Emmanuel Stuart won the toss and elected to have a crack at the Canada bowlers. They lost a couple of early wickets, but a stand of 156 runs between Keagan Simmons and Alick Athanaze propelled them.
The Windies racked up 323 runs and Keagan Simmons finished with 166 runs off 137 balls, which included 17 boundaries. Canada hardly posed a threat to the Windies bowlers and succumbed to a defeat. Kavian Narees looked solid during his knock of 61 runs, but apart from him, the Canadian batsmen faltered.
For the Windies, Ronaldo Alimohamed, Bhaskar Yadram and Alick Athanaze picked up a couple of wickets each. Meanwhile, Keagan Simmons has been adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant display of batsmanship.
