Pakistan batsman Umar Akmal recently found himself in an ugly exchange of words with traffic police at Lahore. The hard-hitting batsman was found to have violated a law that was set by the traffic department. However, upon being confronted by the police, Akmal retaliated and things got from bad to worse at the spot of incident. As Umar Akmal was later quoted saying, the traffic police had apparently started using some foul language against him.

This did not go well with the out of favor Pakistani cricketer. As per the reports in the NDTV sports column, the incident took place on Thursday, March 2. He was driving in his hometown Lahore and was stopped by the traffic cops as they felt his number plate was against the permitted norms of the state. The number plate of the vehicle that Akmal was driving was a customised and a designed one.

Much like the law in most other places, such designed number plates are often not encouraged by the traffic police departments. The customs and excise officials of Lahore deemed the number plate to be an invalid and illegal one. While Akmal did not refute about the complaint at that particular moment of time, he did get upset later. He was disappointed with the way the officials spoke to him. The ‘tone’ of the language used by the cops was something that pricked him the most.

“Police stopped me and used foul language and they told me I would have to remove the number plate myself,” quoted Umar Akmal about the incident. Interestingly, this is not the first time he was involved in a spat with the officials. Earlier in February 2014, the batsman was jailed for getting into an argument with a traffic police who had stopped him for breaking a traffic signal.

Talking about his cricket form, he has been out of the national side for quite some time. He was a regular member of the team leading into the ICC World Cup 2015. It was after a dismal outing at the ICC event that things turned sour for him in the national setup. He was travelling in Lahore after his PSL team Lahore Qalandars were ousted from the playoffs race and that is when that incident took place.
