Recently BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) named Ravi Shastri as the new head coach of Team India. The committee also appointed former fast bowler Zaheer Khan and batsman Rahul Dravid as the batting and bowling consultants respectively. Former all-rounder, Shastri has a good bonding with the team and is quite familiar with the players as he has previously worked with them in the capacity of team director.

India’s new pace spearhead Umesh Yadav feels that Shastri brings a lot of positivity in the team. He had guided the team really well in the past, as India reached the semi-finals of the World Cup 2015 and World T20 2016 in India and also became the first team to whitewash Australia in Australia by beating them 3-0 in the T20I series. Shastri also has a good relationship with the team especially with the captain Virat Kohli.

Umesh praised Shastri saying, “Ravi Bhai is a superb coach because he is positive at all times and has complete faith in the team. The best thing about him is that he’s one of the boys and is extremely friendly. Whatever the circumstances, he doesn’t allow anybody to veer into the negative zone. These qualities make him so special” the pacer told the Times of India.

West Indies tour and recent performances

Umesh has bowled superbly well in the past year and extremely well in the long home season in India. He was the prime fast bowling option for his captain Virat Kohli in the series against Australia and picked up wickets at all times. The pacer was not however at his best in the Champions Trophy in England, as he was dropped from the playing eleven after the game against Sri Lanka.

He was relieved with his performance in the Caribbean and is already charged up for the upcoming challenges. “It gives me huge satisfaction to come home after the mission has been accomplished successfully. West Indies tour was really good. And now it’s a long cricket season ahead, so I have to be prepared and ready,” the Vidarbha express added.

The Indian team will now be touring Sri Lanka for a long and busy tour to play 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and one T20 match.
